3 Reasons Inventors Choose Testrite To Help Bring Their Idea to Life

The year 2020, with its many challenges, provided fertile fuel for inventors and innovators.  Since Testrite was built on innovation, it only makes sense that we are the go to source for individuals and professionals who want to bring their ideas to life.

In 2020, Testrite worked with dozens of inventors to take their idea from a concept and drawing to a real product that they could pitch to crowdfunding campaigns and angel investors.   A good idea is just that – an idea. Creating a prototype of your brainchild is an important part of the process. It’s that point when your hopes, dreams, planning and research become a physical reality.

Our team of engineers, prototype fabricators, and volume production managers make us an ideal fit whether you’re just starting your journey or have an established design and are looking for a production metal manufacturer.

Testrite can take your pencil sketch or CAD drawing, provide a quick quote on prototypes and production, and often ship samples in days. With Testrite’s US manufacturing, you can bring new products to the market quickly, with US sales, engineering, AND production all located in Hackensack, NJ.

Read on to understand the types of products we’ve helped bring to life in 2020 and for details on our in-house, US-based engineering, prototype and production services that can move the needle on your innovation, and why these services can help you get the funding you require to bring it to market.

1. Patents, Prototypes & Products

While statistics for 2020 aren’t yet available, in 2019 a record 330,530 patents were granted in the U.S., and this trend shows no signs of slowing.

After 102 years in the industry of hardware innovation and production, it is no surprise that dozens of these patent seekers sought out Testrite’s expertise in 2020 to bring their idea to life.

Throughout the year, we helped create prototypes for and worked with inventors on products that include:

·         Equipment for hunting
·         Sporting Equipment with an automation component
·         Animal feeding
·         Farm maintenance equipment
·         Internet of Things Agricultural equipment
·         Internet of Things Livestock & Animal Husbandry (A customized hardware solution for agricultural animal tracking to upload data to the cloud)
·         Medical rescue equipment
·         Hand sanitizer dispenser stands
·         Telescopic IV poles and stands
·         Ultrasound mounts / poles
·         Telescopic table legs

Not all of the products granted patents will succeed, which is why working with Testrite can be of a considerable advantage.   A Prototyping model helps demonstrate the technical feasibility, stability integrity and design requirement of the concept.

Prototypes can cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.  With Testrite, we have an affordable prototype process that can bring your idea to life in days - not weeks - and you can get a functional prototype oftentimes for less than $200! Prototype cost does vary based on the level of complexity and setups involved.

The national average cost for a patent alone is $8,800 so it pays to invest in a prototype.  The Inventors we work with at Testrite, engage our prototype services prior to and after the patent process is complete, and to make iterations during production - which is why small batch production runs can be so valuable to inventors.  Additional prototypes may be needed to fine tune the design before going to full scale production and market launch.

2.  The US Made Advantage

When you are bringing a new product to life there are sources overseas, but are they really the ideal fit? When factoring in communication delays, communication mishaps which are inevitable, shipping delays, the difficulties of making changes, and the amount of cash a container load of product will tie up, a US Source makes a lot of sense for many projects and applications.

Testrite is located right here in the United States.  And we do not just have an office in the United States, our state of the art 100,000+ square foot rapid manufacturing and production facility is located here too.   At Testrite, we offer both custom and standard hardware solution which means that we are uniquely suited to meet the custom requirements of new product designs from inventors.

Being US based and highly flexible has its advantages for you, the inventor/product developer.

·         You don’t have to buy a container full of product – for many products 25 is a reasonable economic quantity

·         The smaller quantity threshold means you can make improvements and optimizations without spending so much of your capital

·         Save time – you won’t have to wait for your prototype to sail the seas – we’re right here in New Jersey

·         Quick lead times on custom products - production runs typically ship within 1-2 weeks

·         Mitigate intellectual property risk for your confidential designs

·         Our in-house engineering team is here to help you with no engineering fees - keep in mind this also means you are responsible for developing your idea.

Testrite supports your innovative efforts by offering affordable prototype services that make things both fast and easy along with many other benefits.

3. The Right Tools For the Right Funding

When you are trying to develop a tangible product, having a prototype can dramatically improve your odds of acquiring the capital you need from angel investors and crowd funding campaigns to support market penetration and business scalability.   We can help you position your product perfectly for both angel investors and crowdsourcing platforms. Design is just the first step.

Angel Investors

An angel investor is an individual who provides capital for a business start-up, usually in exchange for convertible debt or ownership equity. Angel investors usually give support to start-ups at the initial moments and when most investors are not prepared to back them.  Finding them is not always easy, but Testrite can help by giving you the right tools for your pitch.

You see, angel investors aren’t looking for products still in the idea stage. They are interested in a business that has already proven the viability of a product, and perhaps even sold some.

When you’re at the prototype stage, these things are an impossibility, but because we have an outstanding reputation and over a century of experience, we can provide details and technical and manufacturing back-up for your product to help bring in angel funds.

Presenting your speculative ideas, research and early development phases won’t appeal to these investors, so if you’re still working on prototype development, crowdfunding is a great alternative, and we can help with that, too.

Crowdfunding

Unlike angel investors, crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet. Crowdfunding is a form of crowdsourcing and alternative finance. Billions of dollars have been raised in the last five years thanks to effective crowdfunding campaigns around the world.  Just like the process of acquiring angel investors, you need to have the right tools to sell your idea.
The right tools include a prototype that helps demonstrate the integrity of your design.  You can’t raise funds for something if you don’t know how much it’s going to cost to produce, or if what you want to do is even possible. This highlights the importance of prototypes, and with our engineering team, you can tweak and iterate until you have exactly what you need to show your product to perfection.

Testrite has helped manufacture products for crowdfunded projects. Unlike vaporware which may never materialize, with Testrite you can have a sample in days and know that with a production order you can take delivery typically in 1-2 weeks, eliminating a whole category of risks from your project.

How to Design Your Invention with Testrite

We make prototyping and manufacturing a simple process:

1. Submit an RFQ - Provide a drawing and any details you have showing what you would like Testrite to manufacture. Ideally list out what’s critical and where you’re flexible

2. Receive and review quote - If your project appears straightforward, we will turn around a quote in 1-2 business days. Review it in detail. If something doesn’t make sense or the pricing won’t work for your project, let us know so we can discuss.

3. Talk to a design specialist about your project. If the initial quote didn’t meet your needs or if we have questions, we’ll jump on a quick 15 minute call to better understand what you’re trying to accomplish and offer practical advice.

4. Order a prototype. This is the exciting part, where you get to see the first-born fruit of your labors. We recommend getting a physical sample to test early so you can see what’s really critical and what’s just a nice to have.

5. Review your prototype and modify it if necessary. Sometimes prototypes spark additional ideas that can improve the final product. Send us a consolidated set of changes and we’ll re-quote.

6. Order your first production run. When you’re comfortable the specifications are right, place your first order. Our minimums are typically very low so you can order a small initial run and quickly fulfill orders with customers, gathering feedback.

7. Our logistics department starts shipping. Packaging, kitting, and drop shipping are all available for full logistical support.
